Lights
Some of us drive through neighborhoods every Christmas to see the lights. Perhaps you’ve sat and watched a thunderstorm in awe and wonder? Maybe you have stayed up to watch a meteor shower and hoped to catch at least one meteor shoot across the dark sky before needing to turn in for the night. When you see lights what rises up in you? Excitement? Joy? Celebration?
We seem to have a connection with light. The brighter and more colorful the better.
Yeah, there’s something about light. It draws us to it in ways darkness doesn’t. Think about how disappointed we are when a cloudy night hinders the view of a fourth of July fireworks show.
Some may enjoy darkness, but I think most would rather be in the light.
Whereas darkness helps put us to sleep, light wakes us. Could this connection with light be our soul’s longing for the light of the world? Could this connection with light be a deep desire within us to come alive and be. . .joined with the light?
Here’s the thing. The big thing. We have access to the grandest light of all. A light that emanates love, joy, peace, comfort, excitement, and eternal salvation. You know where I’m headed, don’t you? JESUS. He’s that light. Jesus said it himself in the gospel of John.
He said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”
I think it’s worth going after this light. No, let me rephrase that. I know it is because I have been living this blessed life in “The Light” for over 33 years. Living in the light doesn’t mean everything has been perfect or easy. It means when things aren’t perfect or easy he’s there to provide the love, joy, peace, and comfort I mentioned earlier, to help us get through it. Whatever our ‘it’ happens to be.
If you haven’t decided to be a follower of Christ just yet, how about this? The next time you go see a good light show, capture the feeling. Try to multiply that excitement a thousand times over and you’ll have just a small taste of what it’s like to LIVE in the light of Jesus-the-Christ!
