Stay In Goshen

A few months ago before going to sleep I asked God what is going on? What am I not doing? Why am I having difficulty deciphering these times? I cried out because I felt so lost for incite. I was feeling bombarded with information, speculation, conspiracy theories, social and political unrest. I have a close relationship with my savior, and I hear Holy Spirit when he speaks to me, but during this particular time, I was struggling to know what to do in the current climate. Why does the constant barrage of information cause me to question everything? I thought okay I guess I need to fast more, pray more, etc. I was in a whirlwind of thought and frustration. I was an emotional mess. Then in the still of the night. . .God. . .showed. . .up.

The first thing he spoke was, ‘Stay in Goshen.’

He began to talk to me about the provision that was available in Goshen when the plagues were hitting the Egyptians. He said if you stay in Goshen, you’ll have all you need. He said you will see what’s happening to those in Egypt, but remember this: only with your eyes will you see the destruction of the wicked. Just stay in Goshen. He went on to tell me I am not unaware of what is happening. I am not just standing by, doing nothing.

But, I felt like I was doing nothing. I felt as if I were not fulfilling my duties during this time. He went on to let me know that I was trying to fill an area I am not called to. That’s what was causing my angst. That’s what was stealing my peace. That’s what was making me feel like a subpar citizen, subpar Christian, subpar daughter of God, and subpar minister.

Somehow I placed too much on my own shoulders.

Remember, God provided in Goshen. All he asked his people to do was stay put and believe. He went on to reassure my soul by saying I have appointed and anointed people to do the job you are trying to do. I gave Moses and Aaron the ability to deal with “Egypt”. I put the words in Moses’ and Aaron’s mouths that needed to be said. I put the staff in Moses’ hand that needed to be wielded. I equip those I call to do what they need to do to get their assignment accomplished. He told me, you do your job. You do your assignment. That’s all I am requiring of you.

It’s now about 1:00 am and I am trying not to wake my husband, but I am a mess at this point. Wow! Through the flowing tears, I took a deep relaxing breath.

I cannot tell you the relief I felt after this most timely and needed conversation. Just do my job. Yes Lord, that I can do. My job is to help equip God’s people to be strong in him and have faith in him. My job is to help people get to know him and develop a relationship with him. Yes, God, I can do that. I can do that because he has equipped me to do that. When I step out of that, that’s when I lose my perspective and my peace. I want God to always remind me of what’s available in Goshen. I also want him to continue to remind me to stay in my lane. To stay in my area of influence. To stay within my anointing, my gift, and my calling. Can you imagine the mess that would have been made if anyone else tried to do what Moses and Aaron were called to do, and by the way, anointed to do? Actually, there were those who rose up against them and tried to do just that. Epic fail.

The last thing he spoke to me that night was, get busy writing. This is your next blog post. See, God knows I am not the only one who needed to hear this. He wanted me to write it down. Perhaps you have allowed yourself to step into an area that has taken away your peace, your purpose. Child of God please don’t stay there. Walk out of it and find your way back to Goshen. Yes, the Israelites had to work and toil in Egypt. Yes, they had to spend time in Egypt slaving away for Pharoah, but remember God told them generations before that this would happen. But he also told them he would bring them out. He also repeatedly told Moses I am hardening Pharoah’s heart. You see there was purpose in this suffering.

God wanted to prove to the Israelites, and to the Egyptians I am God, and there is no one greater.

When God says enough, things change. They may not change for everyone, but I am confident they will change for his kingdom people who will dare to believe him; just like he did for the Israelites. If you are his. . . he’s got you. It’s not our job to figure out how he’s going to do it. It’s our job to occupy, to do our job until he comes. So let’s stay in faith, and remember what God reminded me of that night. He sees all of it, and he’s working on it. Stay in Goshen.
